The Skippers ( Family Hesperiidae )
The members of this family that are found in the Maritimes are generally small, with the exception of the Silver Spotted Skipper. They tend to be gray to orange/brown in colour. The family name refers to the bouncy, "skipping" pattern of their flight. Many think of these butterflies as "moth-like", but they are more closely related to true butterflies than they are to moths.
